So colorful!

Amate Bark Paintings Grade 3

Third grade studied traditional folk art paintings of Mexico, specifically Amate Paintings.  We discussed the material these paintings are made from, tree bark.  We talked about the subject matter of the paintings:  everyday life, folk tales, nature etc…  We identified principles and elements of design: line, shape, color and pattern.  Students created their own Amate painting, depicting images of springtime and nature.
Beautiful work Third Grade!

Kindergarten Prints

Kindergarten is using pattern to create these beautiful prints!  We looked at textile design for our inspiration.

Non-Objective/Mixed Media inspired by Jazz

Second Graders looked at several non-objective/non-representational artworks.  We discussed the value of line, shape and color in an abstract artwork. We also discussed how artists use line, shape and color to create non-representational artworks.  Students experimented with paint, crayon, rubbings, chalk and marker.  Our artworks were inspired by classic jazz music, which played while our minds and hands danced.
Love!!!

Perspective with Grade 1

Perspective in first grade?  Oh yes!
Students learned that objects are large when we are close to them.  And objects become smaller as we move away from them.  In our artwork, we illustrated side mirrors on cars to reflect things we may be driving away from.  If we are driving away, the image becomes smaller.
Bravo, first graders!
